My name is Jamie Bessette and I am all in when it comes to helping kids. I have spent my entire career helping others, mainly through the educational system. My whole life, even as a teenager, has been devoted to helping kids, their parents and teachers.
In the last 22 years, as an educator, I have helped parents navigate school systems that were districts I worked in and sometimes not. At times the families weren't even in states that I worked in so I had to learn about each state's laws and the application of the federal regulations.
I have been a Special Education Teacher, an Educational Diagnostician, an Autism Consultant, a Program Support Teacher, an Assessment Specialist, and a Special Education Coordinator. My Bachelor's degree is in Special Education; specifically Learning Disabilities and Behavior Disorders from Northeastern Illinois University. I earned my Master's degrees in Educational Leadership; specifically Principal and Director of Pupil Services from Marian University.
After growing up in a suburb of Chicago I’ve moved around a bit. I have now lived and worked as an educator in three states. During that time I have married and have had 2 children. Parenting, while having many similarities to teaching is also very different. I’ve many many unexpected curve balls in my life and have done my best to “roll with it.”
One more thing… I love to take pictures. I’m obsessed with it! I was obsessed with it even before smartphones and digital cameras, it was all the way back when you had to take rolls of film to get developed. So for the most part the pictures I use will be ones I personally took.
I invite you to join in this adventure with me where we can help support each other to be better with the work we do with kids.
